HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 1998-19053 RESOLUTION NO, 19053 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA, CALIFORNIA, CALLING AND GIVING NOTICE OF THE HOLDING OF A SPECIAL MUNICIPAL RUNOFF ELECTION TO BE HELD ON TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 3, 1998 FOR COUNCIL SEAT 1 AND REQUESTING THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF THE COUNTY OF SAN DIEGO TO CONSOLIDATE THE SPECIAL MUNICIPAL RUNOFF ELECTION WITH THE STATEWIDE GENERAL ELECTION TO BE HELD ON THE DATE PURSUANT TO SECTION 10403 OF THE ELECTIONS CODE WHEREAS, under the provisions of the Charter of the City of Chula Vista, a Special Municipal Runoff Election shall be held on Tuesday, November 3, 1998 for the two candidates of Seat 1 who received the highest nunqber of votes cast and yet did not receive a total of fifty percent plus one at the General Municipal Election held on June 2, 1998; and WHEREAS, it is desirable that the Special Muoicipal Runoff Election be consolidated with the Statewide election to be held on the same date and that within the city the precincts, polling places, and election officers of the two elections be the same, and that the San Diego County Registrar of Voters canvass the returns of the Special Municipal Runoff election and that the election be held in all respects as if there was only one election. NOW, THEREFORE, THE C~TY COUNCIL does resolve, declare, determine, and order as follows: Section 1. That a Special Municipal Runoff Election is hereby called for Council Seat I to be held on Novenaher 3, 1998. Section 2. That pursuant to the requiremeets of Section 23302 of the Elections Code, the Board of Supervisors of tile County of San Diego is hereby requested to consent and agree to the consolidation of the Special Municipal Runoff Election with the Statewide election on Tuesday, November 3, 1998 for the purpose of conducting a runoff election for Council Seat 1. Section 3. That tile San Diego Registral of Voters is authorized to canvass the returns of the Special Municipal Rurloff Election. The election shall be held in all respects as if there were onty one election, and only one form of hailer shall be used. Section 4. That the Board of Supervisors is requested to issue instructions to the County Registrar of Voters to take any and all steps necessary for the holding of tile consolidated election. Section 5. That the City of Chula Vista recognizes that additional costs will be incurred by the County hy reason of this consolidation and agrees to reimburse the Count1 for any costs. That the City Clerk is hereby directed to file a certified copy of this resolution with the Board of Supervisors and the Registrar of Voters of the County of San Diego.
