CALL TO ORDER
ROLL CALL: Present: Stephen Millikin, Gene Pellerin, Stephen Sprenkle, and
Terry Jensen. Excused: Bobby Price, John Acosta, and Keith
Bloom.
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE TO THE FLAG
1. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: The minutes of the February meeting were approved.
2. ACTION ITEMS
• Chula Vista Library Veterans Wing development funding. John Acosta is working
this project. At the current time we are waiting to determine if the federal funding
sponsored by Congressman Filner was approved in the recently passed
Omnibus Legislation signed by President Obama. Gene Pellerin will ask
Congressman Filner's office if the funding was added to the Omnibus funding
legislation.
• Gene Pellerin began a discussion regarding the Commissions meeting locations.
While the present policy of rotating the meetings locations between the Chula
Vista Veterans Home and the City of Chula Vista Police Station has been
incorporated by City of Chula Vista Resolution NO. 2007-01, city ordinance (NO.
2593) has not been modified to reflect the meeting places. Prior to modifying the
city ordinance a review of the meeting place resolution was determined to be
appropriate. A motion was then made and seconded to have all the meetings at
the Chula Vista Veterans Home located at 700 East Naples Court, Chula Vista,
CA. The Chula Vista Veterans Advisory Commission unanimously approved the
motion. Gene Pellerin will draft a proposed resolution for approval and
recommend the appropriate change to Chula Vista City Ordinance NO. 2593.
• Veterans Home Support Foundation annual golf classic on May 5, 2009. Gene
Pellerin provided copies of the flyer and sponsor and player registration forms.
l
• Recognition of Veterans lost in combat action (Arthur Johnson, WW II story) -
Gene Pellerin corresponded with a documentary film group that had requested
more information about Arthur Johnson. The film group actually had more
information than the veterans biography had on the City of Chula Vista web site.
After researching several web sights for Second Lieutenant Johnson's relatives
no positive results could be developed. Using the information provide by the film
group, 2d Lt. Johnson's biography was updated. Holger Sommerfield has posted
the up-dated biography on the web sit. The Commission thanks Holger for his
work.
• The Commission discussed the requirement for two new members of the
Commission in June 2009 to replace two current members (Steve Millikin and
Bobby Price) who term-out.
• Chula Vista Veteran of the Year status: The Veterans Advisory Commission is
actively seeking recommendations for the Chula Vista Veteran of the Year.
