Naples Ct Chula Vista, CA 91910 CALL TO ORDER ROLL CALL: Present: Gene Pellerin, John Acosta, Terry Jensen, Stephen Sprenkle, Keith Blum Excused: Absent: Guests Present: Rudy Ramirez, Chula Vista Councilmember Virgil Whitehead, Veteran of the Year PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE TO THE FLAG 1. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Commissioner Jensen moved to approve August's minutes. Commissioner Sprenkle 2"d the motion, the motion carried 5-0 vote. 2. ACTION ITEMS Guests Present: Councilmember Rudy Ramirez spoke to commissioners and expressed his interest in becoming involved with the VAC. Councilman Ramirez will follow-up on the Civic Center Veteran wing project and look into obtaining a copy of the Veteran's Court bill. • Veteran of the Year Update: Virgil Whitehead was selected as Veteran of the Year and is also a good candidate for County Veteran of the Year. The application for County Veteran of the Year is due in October. • Special Court: Gene Pellerin discussed possibly supporting the special Veteran's Court. Leonard Miranda will follow-up proposed legislation by Assemblymember Salas. ^ Chula Vista Library Update: John Acosta will contact the Civic Center Library for an update and will send an update via email, Wednesday August 19tH • State contracting to disabled veterans: Keith Blum discussed State subcontracting to Disabled Veteran Business Enterprises and the elimination of Good Faith Effort in Public contracting Code. 3. WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS: None Comments/ Adjourn 4. ADJOURNMENT The Veterans Advisory Commission will adjourn to the next regular meeting scheduled on Tuesday, September 15, 2009 at 6:OOpm at the Chula Vista Veteran's Home 700 E. Naples Court Chula Vista, CA 91910.
