2. ACTION ITEMS:
Chula Vista Veterans Home Report- Virgil Whitehead stated Founders
Day was well attended.
Veterans Activities Report by Virgil Whitehead-
SSgt Lorenzo (of Chula Vista) and LCpI Hill (of Poway) viewing services
were held at Greenwood and burial at Miramar. Gene Pellerin put together
a bio for SSgt Lorenzo for the City's website.
Leroy Acosta of Chula Vista is president of the DAV for California. Gene
Pellerin to prepare awrite-up for Mayor's Office.
4th of July Coronado Parade will commence on J Street between 1St and
2~d at 8:30am.
Homeless Veteran Stand Down will be held July 15-17th. Volunteers are
needed. Donation of blankets, hygiene products, and clothing are also
needed.
The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals recently ordered a major overhaul of
the Department of Veterans Affairs in processing of disability claims. More
than 830,000 claims are filed each year. It is taking 4.4 years to file some
appeal cases.
Garage sale for Wounded Warrior Fundraiser is set for July 17, 2011 at
736 1St Avenue in Chula Vista.
Numerous Wounded Warriors fundraisers, which ones are legit? Three
letters were sent to three different fundraisers asking how much of the
money collected go to the wounded warriors. There has been no response
as of yet.
Help is needed in finding homeless veterans places to live, even
temporary.
Midway Museum is requesting volunteers who can make a monthly
commitment. More information found at volunteering(c~midway.orq.
SD Home Renovation program underway with a Sears grant to renovate
a home for any active duty military person. Contact Mary Tanner at 858-
676-6766.
Commissioners to brainstorm on looks for a Veterans Advisory
Commission cap. Present ideas at next month's meeting.
Phil Landis, President and CEO of Veteran Village has been selected to
serve on atwelve-member veteran affairs board on a national level for the
homeless veterans.
VA is now accepting claims online. For more information go to
www.va.gov or complete the form at www.va.gov/onlineapps.htm
American Legion is requesting used cell phones.
^ South Bay Family YMCA donation to Veterans Home- Gene Pellerin
discussed the fundraiser, which raised $500 for the Veterans home.
Next year they are planning a bigger event.
The VAC's webpage on the City of Chula Vista's website is not
updated. Gene Pellerin to contact the City of Chula Vista to update the
meeting time/place.

Comments/ Adjourn: The meeting was adjourned at 6:55pm by Steven Sprenkle,
seconded by John Acosta.
4. ADJOURNMENT
The meeting adjourned at 7:00 PM. The Veterans Advisory Commission will have the
next regular meeting on Tuesday, July 19, 2011 at the Chula Vista Veterans' Home, 700 E.
Naples Court.
