2. ACTION ITEMS:
^ Veterans Activities Report: The Veterans Activity report for July was
distributed. The report to be discussed at next meeting.
^ Coronado 4th of July Parade: The parade was successful; the VAC was
represented by Terry Jensen, John Acosta and Virgil Whitehead.
^ Chula Vista Home report: Statewide savings plan for Veterans Homes is to
possibly make Chula Vista Veterans Home the pharmacy for all Veterans
Homes, which can save around $6 million.
^ City of Chula Vista website: The VAC's page on the City of Chula Vista's
website is up to date with the latest meeting time/dates and biographies.
^ Veteran of the Year nomination process status: Gene Pellerin will submit the
2011-2012 VOY nomination to County of San Diego after City of Chula
Vista's recognition for the Veteran of the Year.
^ Library Status: John Acosta stated he has item for display, waiting a phone
call from Stephanie with the library. A small display case is needed. If one is
available, provide the measurements and possibly a picture of it.
^ Stand down: The 24th Annual Stand Down was well represented by the VAC
and volunteers. This year was the largest Stand Down event, which has been
growing every year. There were a large number of young homeless veterans
and dependants, including children, which is very alarming. The number of
veterans recently released from active duty who have no employment is
rapidly increasing. This problem will only get worse as the military cuts the
number of personnel.
Certificate of Appreciation for Christine Hulsizer: After discussion there was a
motion by Terry Jensen to award Christine Hulsizer with a Certificate of
Appreciation for her work on the Wounded Warrior garage sale fundraiser.
The motion was seconded by John Acosta and approved by all. Gene
Pellerin to work on the write up for the certificate.
Discussion Veteran suicide rate: Alex Galicia discussed possibly teaming up
with Major General David Baldwin regarding addressing the high rate of
unemployment and suicide rate for veterans. Post military service suicides
are not accounted for in the militaries suicide numbers. Reaching out for
support from community organizations. Captain Gary Ficacci suggested an
open invitation for the General to attend a VAC meeting.

Comments/ Adjourn: The meeting was adjourned at 6:35pm by Steven Sprenkle,
seconded by John Acosta.
