Environmental Resource Manager Reed gave a presentation on the progress of the Climate Adaptation planning, including the use of a reconvened Climate Change Working Group to review and vet potential strategies to be incorporated in the Climate Adaptation plan. The staff report included the ground rules for how the group would work, and a list of potential representations to serve on the group. Manager Reed stated that they were looking to expand the Climate Change Working Group in order to incorporate more focus areas. He added that because of the uniqueness of climate adaptation, there is certain expertise and local knowledge that will help broaden and help make it a more robust experience. He also called the Board's attention to the draft meeting schedule for the group. The Board then discussed suggestions for possible members for the Climate Change Working Group. Environmental Resource Manager Reed introduced Nicola Hedge from the San Diego Foundation who gave an update on some of the studies that would be coming out to help inform the decision making processes. RCC Minutes, 11/9/09, Page 1 of 2 • 2. Environmental Resource Manager Reed also gave an update on Certified Renewal Energy Bonds (CRESS). He stated that the City was allocated $29 million of CREBS bonds, and that we have three years to issue the bonds. He also pointed out that out of the 40 projects that we proposed, 34 projects which cover 19 different sites, did get allocated. Manager Reed and Director Meacham then responded to questions from the Board. ACTION ITEMS: None DIRECTOR OF CONSERVATION AND ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES COMMENTS Director Meacham stated that Environmental Resource Manager Reed and Environmental Resource Specialist Michelle Castagnola and their staff had been working with Red Lobster on a NatureScape and water-smart garden, and that the first step was completed. He displayed before and after pictures of the area in front of Red Lobster that had been redesigned by the group. Director Meacham announced that the Los Vecinos project, which was the first LEED platinum project in Chula Vista, has also been designated as the highest scoring multi-family LEED project in the history of LEED. LEED is an internationally recognized green building certification system which stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. Director Meacham also mentioned that although it is not yet official, on December 2"d, the state will be having a ceremony to announce three Chula Vista businesses that have won the Cool California Climate Award, one of which is owned by RCC board member Rahimzadeh. CHAIR COMMENTS None COMMISSIONER COMMENTS Commissioner Gilgun announced that the City is having open houses regarding the pedestrian master plan that the city is asking for public feedback on.
