CULTURAL ARTS COMMISSION

1. Call to Order/ Roll Call
Commission Chair Voorhees called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m.

2. Approval of Minutes
Motion was made (Commissioner Deavenport) and seconded (Commissioner
Glenn) to approve the minutes of the December 10 and January 12 meetings.
Motion was carried unanimously.
3. Public Comments
There are no public comments.
4. Old Business
There is no old business to discuss.
5. New Business

a. Port Public Art Committee Update -Souval
Port Representative Souval was not present to give an update.
b. Support of the City of Chula Vista's Fiscal Health Plan -Voorhees
Cultural Arts Commissioners decided not the take a position on the 1
sales tax increase.
c. Selection of McCandliss Award Sub-Committee - Voo-fiees
Commissioners Deavenport, Fessia, Glenn and Knowlton will be part of
the McCandliss Award Sub-Committee.

6. Staff Updates
a. Performing and Visual Arts Grant Applications -Love
There are a total of 16 applicants for funding.
b. Library Card Design Contest -Love
The Library Card Design Contest reception was held at the Civic Center
Branch Library on January 25 and was very well attended. Library cards
with the new designs were available for sale; sales from the cards will
benefit the Chula Vista Public Library Foundation.
c. SUHSD Art Show on March 6 at the South Chula Vista Library -Love
The SUHSD Juried Art Show will be on display at the South Chula Vista
Library on February 20 through March 6. A reception will be held on
March 6 at 6pm, commissioners are encouraged to attend.
d. Next Meeting Date -Love
Staff member Love will not be able to attend the March 9 Cultural Arts
Commission Meeting. Therefore, the meeting will be moved to Monday,
March 16 so that he can attend.
7. Oral Communications
Commission Vice Chair Bolles gave an update from the Chula Vista Arts
• Foundation Meeting that was held on January 14. Some of the issues discussed
were:
- Branding materials are completed and a brochure is being created which will
focus on the youth and support for the arts in Chula Vista.
- Finding a venue and rehearsal space for the Junior Theatre in the Gateway
Building.
- With the passage of Proposition R, plans are being considered to develop the
corner of Otay Lakes Road and H Street.
- Planning a meeting with Eric Crockett with the City of Chula Vista's
Redevelopment Department to come up with other possible venues in the
city.
Staff member Love announced the resignation of Susan O'Shaughnessy from
the Cultural Arts Commission effective today, February 9.
8. Adjournment
Adjournment was made at 6:55 p.m. The next Cultural Arts Commission meeting
will be held at 5:45pm on, Monday, March 16, 2009 in the Library Conference
Room of the Civic Center Library.
