CHULA VISTA ACCEPTING AN $825 DONATION FROM
THE ROTARY CLUB OF CHULA VISTA AND
APPROPRIATING SAID FUNDS TO THE FISCAL YEAR

SUMMARY
The Fire Department recently received a donation in the amount of $825 from the Rotary
Club of Chula Vista. The donation was presented to the Fire Department to support the
water safety program.
ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW
This proposed activity has been reviewed for compliance with, the California
Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and it has been determined that the activity is not a
"Project" as defined under Section 15378 of the State CEQA Guidelines because it will
not result in a physical change in the environment; therefore, pursuant to Section
15060(c)(3) of the State CEQA Guidelines, the activity is not subject to CEQA. Thus, no
environmental review is necessary.
RECOMMENDATION
Council adopt the resolution.
BOARDS/COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION
Not Applicable.
DISCUSSION
Drowning is the leading cause of accidental death for children under the age of five.
There have been 43 accidental drownings in San Diego County in the past 5 years with
several occurring in Chula Vista. Drowning is preventable. The Fire and Recreation
Departments have launched a water safety program to help inform our citizens about
these dangers. To help meet this responsibility an $825 donation from the Rotary Club of

Chula Vista will be used to promote and deliver education on water safety. Specifically,
the Fire Department will purchase vehicle wraps to place on fire apparatus, helping
promote this message to the community.
DECISION MAKER CONFLICT
Staff has reviewed the decision contemplated by this action and has determined that it is
not site specific and consequently the 500-foot rule found in California Code of
Regulations section 18704.2(a)(1) ishot applicable to this decision.
CURRENT YEAR FISCAL IMPACT
Approval of this resolution will result in a one-time appropriation of $825 to the supplies
and services budget category of the Fire Department. The donation from the Rotary Club
of Chula Vista will completely offset these costs, resulting in no net impact to the
General Fund.
ONGOING FISCAL IMPACT
There is no ongoing fiscal impact for accepting this donation.

APPROPRIATING SAID FUNDS TO THE FISCAL YEAR

WHEREAS, the Fire and Recreation Departments have launched a water safety
program to help inform citizens about the dangers of accidental drowning; and
WHEREAS, the Fire Department recently received a donation in the amount of $825
from the Rotary Club of Chula Vista; and
WHEREAS, the $825 donation was presented to the Fire Department to support the
water safety program; and
WHEREAS, the Fire Department will use these donated funds to purchase vehicle
wraps and place them on fire apparatus to promote and educate citizens on water safety.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED the City Council of the City of Chula
Vista does hereby accept a $825 donation from the Rotary Club of Chula Vista and
appropriate said funds to the supplies and services category of the Fire Department.
