ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA AMENDING
SECTION 2.04.020 OF THE CHULA VISTA MUNICIPAL
CODE RELATING TO TIME AND PLACE OF COUNCIL
MEETINGS
WHEREAS, Section 306 of the Chula Vista City Charter requires the City Council to
hold regular meetings at least once each month at such times as it shall fix by ordinance or
resolution; and
WHEREAS, Chapter 2.04.020 of the Chula Vista Municipal Code establishes the time
and place of Chula Vista City Council meetings; and
WHEREAS, the current ordinance sets the time for City Council meetings the first,
second, third, and fourth Tuesday of each month at four p.m.; and
WHEREAS, the City desires to amend Chapter 2.04.020 of the Chula Vista Municipal
Code to set the time for all regular City Council meetings at two p.m., on the first, second, third
and fourth Tuesday of each month; and
NOW THEREFORE the Council of the City of Chula Vista does ordain as follows:
Section I: Section 2.04.020 of the Chula Vista Municipal Code is hereby amended as
follows:
2.04.020 Meetings-Time and place.
Pursuant to Section 306 of the Charter, the council shall hold regular meetings at least
once each month. Such meetings shall be held in the Council chambers at 276 Fourth Avenue in
the City, or in such other appropriate conference room within the Civic Center complex, as may
be determined by the council. Regular meetings shall be held on the first, second, third, and
fourth Tuesday of each month at two o'clock in the afternoon (2:00 p.m.). Regular meetings may
be cancelled in special circumstances or as necessary, in the discretion of the City Manager, or
by a majority vote of the council. When the day for any regular meeting of the council falls on a
legal holiday, no meeting shall be held on such holiday.
It shall be the general policy of the city council to cancel any meetings in the last week of
June and the first week of July, the Tuesday following the Thanksgiving holiday, the week
following Easter, the Tuesday following Labor Day, and the week of Christmas and New Year's.
Any of these meetings may be reinstituted if necessary by a majority of the council.

Section IL Severability
If any portion of this Ordinance, or its application to any person or circumstance, is for
any reason held to be invalid, unenforceable or unconstitutional, by a court of competent
jurisdiction, that portion shall be deemed severable, and such invalidity, unenforceability or
unconstitutionality shall not affect the validity or enforceability of the remaining portions of the
Ordinance, or its application to any other person or circumstance. The City Council of the City of
Chula Vista hereby declares that it would have adopted each section, sentence, clause or phrase
of this Ordinance, irrespective of the fact that any one or more other sections, sentences, clauses
or phrases of the Ordinance be declared invalid, unenforceable or unconstitutional.
Section III. Construction
The City Council of the City of Chula Vista intends this Ordinance to supplement, not to
duplicate or contradict, applicable state and federal law and this Ordinance shall be construed in
light of that intent.
Section IV. Effective Date
This Ordinance shall take effect and be in force on the thirtieth day after its final passage.
Section V. Publication
The City Clerk shall certify to the passage and adoption of this Ordinance and shall cause
the same to be published or posted according to law.
