Chula Vista, CA -Little Tommy Sablan of the Jeff &Jer Showgram and Giving Back
Magazine headlined the Chula Vista Charitable Foundation's (CVCF) "Getting to
Know the CVCF" event, which celebrated the success of the Foundation's first grants
and the progress of its second year of grantmaking. Festivities, which were held on
June 28, 2012 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center, included appetizers and Olympic
views of the Center facility. Attendees mingled with friends and neighbors and
learned about the impact being made in the community through the Chula Vista
Charitable Foundation.
"Little Tommy and Giving Back Magazine are pillars of the Chula Vista community
and it was an honor to partner with them for this event," said Christopher M. Redo,
chair of the Foundation, "Highlighting the progress of our 2011 Grantees, The Arc of
San Diego's Starlight Center in Chula Vista and the South Bay Family YMCA, allows
our members to experience the impact of their charitable giving first-hand. By
teaming up with Little Tommy and Danitza and Esteban Villanueva of Giving Back
Magazine, we hope to spread the word about the Foundation's impact on Chula
Vista."
"I'm so proud of Chula Vista," Tommy Sablan, a Chula Vista Native, said throughout
the evening. He later added, "Chula Vista Charitable Foundation members are
`walking the talk' when it comes to giving back to our community."
Founded in 2008, The Chula Vista Charitable Foundation, an affiliate of The San
Diego Foundation, seeks to improve the quality of life in Chula Vista through
responsible and effective philanthropy. In its first year of grantmaking, the
Foundation requested proposals from local programs that focused on Access to Care
in Health and Human Services. The CVCF is currently making the final decisions on
the recipients of its 2012 Grants which will go to Social Service Support Programs.
The benefits of membership in the Chula Vista Charitable Foundation were also
highlighted at the event. Foundation members vote on grantmaking focus areas and
on grant recipients, attend special events with grantee organizations, and become
involved with a network of community-minded neighbors. One of the Foundation's
newest members, Norbert Stein, who is approaching his 100` birthday, had the
opportunity to share with the Olympic Training Center crowd why he recently joined
the CVCF.
"My good friend the Mayor invited me in to her office and told me about The Chula
Vista Charitable Foundation. I joined right then!" Stein explained. "And since I've
joined, the secret is out. We are on a membership drive right now. We want to
double our membership and I will see to it."
"We're always excited to share our vision with the Chula Vista community," said
CVCF Board Member Tom Clavell, "CVCF members are active participants in
deciding how and where to make an impact in their community. The Foundation
offers a vehicle for learning about the issues and needs in Chula Vista and helps
Chula Vistans become part of their community's solutions."
