RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA
URGING THE REJECTION OF SENATE BILL N0. 876, AS AMENDED,
RELATING TO THE RESERVATION OF LAND FOR PARK SITES IN
SUBDIVISIONS
The City Council of the City of Chula Vista does hereby resolve
as follows:
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Chula Vista has heretofore,
by Resolution No. 4398, adopted on the 9th day of May, 1967, opposed the out-
right repeal of the provisions of the State Subdivision Map Act, requiring
the dedication of park lands and school sites or in lieu thereof, the collec-
tion of fees from subdividers in order to provide necessary park sites and
school sites for newly subdivider urban land, and
WHEREAS, said Senate Bill No. 876 has been amended to require only
the reservation of land for such purposes, subject to the same conditions as
set forth for dedication in providing that the City would pay to the subdivider
the purchase price which the subdivider incurred plus other additional costs
as set forth in the legislation, and
WHEREAS, after a review by the Park and Recreations Commission of
the City of Chula Vista and other staff members of the City of Chula Vista,
the amended bill is also considered to be inimical to the best interests of
the growing urban areas, and adverse to sound economic solutions to the prob-
lems of providing park and school sites to serve the new developments within
all municipalities.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
Chula Vista that said Council does hereby strongly urge the Legislature to
oppose the adoption of Senate Bill 876, as amended, and respectfully requests
that the matter of dedication of park sites as provided in the State Subdivision
Map Act be carefully reviewed by an interim committee of the Assembly or the
Senate and revised in such a manner so as to fairly and equitably impose the
burden of providing such sites upon the developers of new subdivisions.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk of the City of Chula Vista
be, and he is hereby directed to forward certified copies of this resolution to
all members of the Legislative Delegation of the County of San Diego.
