Grady Director of Building and Housing FROM: George Calafut Communications Division SUBJECT: Communication requirements. As previously reported by Chief Winters, none of our current mobile and portable equipment can meet the specifications required for compatibility with the Co- ordinated Communications System. General Electric mobile equipment now in our possession can be modified accord.in to the following estimated price schedule. 4 frequency conversion kit 50.00 crystals for conversion kit 60.00 Dual 'read front end (option '1) 210.00 Priority Scan & Lock (option ;'2) 100.00 Multiple channel guard (option i7) 150.00 (2nd tone coded squelch frequency) -x',yide band transmitter (option IjN) 225.00 labor 1.50.00 1, 025.00 x I;ot specified in Chief Winter's letter. Since the required fre(luencies are slijitly beyoi.c. ;hc band pass of our mobile units, some loss in efficiency and trancmi-i,te;~ pow :r output would result. This degradation would probably not affect our norz,,al co:.I tlni. cations in Chula Vista, but it can interfere with communications of ?t;;i(_I. the ciy ,rhicli will be required if we participate in the Coordinated Commun.icationo y: tem. We would still possess an older inodi.fied system. ,3''houl_d we purchase the new mobile units, we can replace older tube type ecqui_pment in the lolice Department (they have seven (7) ) and other departments within the city. In effect, we would be obtaining a newer system for ti 300.00 per unit to .rep_lace t11c ol(ler tube type equipment which are less reliable and costly to maintain. If we pur- chase new equipmcn.t, we would not be locked into any system for future competitive prOCLuc C,s. Di viea of the for,2coL). :facts and the overall lont, -term benefits to the city, this writer recommends purchasing the new mobile units in lieu of modifying existin,; equip'.
