The Public Employment Program, established under the Federal Emerge
Employment Act of 1971, is designed to combat unemployment by sub-
sidizing the creation of public service jobs which would not be
available otherwise. In times of severe unemployment, the Act
automatically goes into effect to provide funds for hiring and
training the unemployed for possible integration into career
government service.
Funding has been provided through the State of California to the
County of San Diego. The City will receive a portion of the funds
allocated to the County upon agreeing to the conditions of the Act.
The agreement, signed by the Mayor, must be submitted to the
County as soon as possible.
Mr. John Bareno, County Coordinator for the Public Employment
Program, is available to answer questions regarding the attached
copy of the agreement (279 -8300, x 267).
