This Portland Cement- Concrete ditch will replace an exist- ing asphaltic concrete drainage ditch, which is requiring constant maintenance, and which is the source of unhealthy and unsightly conditions in the neighborhood. The drainage ditch lies within a 6' drainage easement which was dedicated to and accepted by the City when it approved the final map of Glenhurst Subdivision on 11- 26 -52. This project is budgeted under the 1971-72 Capital Improve- ment Program as Storm Drain, Group Project No. 1 (Pia -3 -71) in the amount of $19,000. Cole, Director of Public Works TO: City Attorney SUBJECT: Accepting Bids & Awarding Contract for the Construction of a Drainage Ditch at 348 Beech Avenue Your office is requested to prepare the necessary [X] Resolution; [ ] Ordinance; [ ] Agreement; to be presented to the City Council for action on October 5 , 1971 , on the subject matter. Supporting information: (Use other side if necessary) The Director of Public Works has received informal bids in accordance with Section 2.508 of the City Code for the construction of a drainage ditch at 388 Beech Avenue, from Beech Avenue to 422 feet west, as shown on Chula Vista Drawing Number 71 -116D. This Portland Cement Concrete ditch will replace an existing asphaltic concrete drainage ditch, which is requiring constant maintenance, and which is the source of unhealthy and unsightly conditions in the neighborhood. The drainage ditch lies within a 6' drainage easement which was dedicated to and accepted by the City when it approved the final map of Glenhurst Subdivision on November 26, 1952. Bids were received from four bidders for this project. The list of bidders and their accompanying bid amounts are as follows: 1. Ballard-Williams $3,249.75 2. W. H. Ledbetter & Son, Inc. 4,158.00 3. Sapper Brothers, Inc. 4,488.00 4. T. B. Penick $ Sons, Inc. 5,722.04 The Director of Public Works recommends that the contract be awarded to Ballard Williams in the amount of $3,249.75. This project is one of the projects which is budgeted under the 1971 -72 Capital Improve- ment Program as Storm Drain, Group Project No. 1 (PW -3 -71) in the amount of $19,000. Please prepare a resolution accepting the bids and awarding the con- tract to Ballard Williams and further, to appropriate the expenditure of $3,600.00 from the 1971 -72 Capital Improvement Fund, Group Project No. 1 (PW- 3 -71).
