Resolution 6039, dated April 27, 1971, called for accepting bids
and awarding contract for three digital timed traffic controllers
to the Automatic Signal Division. Automatic Signal Division was
the low bidder of three companies; namely Automatic ($40,760.19),
Econolite ($41,544.14) and Singer ($44,266.95). The controllers
are to be used to upgrade the three intersections of Broadway and
"H" Street, Broadway and "E" Street and 4th Avenue and "C" Street
to quad left operation, plus pedestrian indications.
We are presently designing a traffic signal installation at the
intersection of East "L" Street, Telegraph Canyon Road and Nacion.
In researching existing and projected flows at this location, it
is our opinion that provisions should be made for quad left
operation to provide for anticipated flows and movements when I -805
is completed. The present ADT on Telegraph Canyon Road and East
"L" Street is 9300, with a projected 1990 ADT of 37,000.
The Automatic Signal Division was contacted relative to supplying
a controller for this location and they have agreed to furnish one
similar to the three that are presently on order at the price state
in their original bid, namely $13,503.00.
It is recommended that Resolution 6039 be amended to include the
purchase of this fourth controller. This equipment will be in-
stalled on Gas Tax Project #150 -2 and will be financed by 2107
Gas Tax funds.
The total amount of Gas Tax funds allocated for Projects 150 -1
(5th & "L ") and 150 -2 (East "L ", Telegraph Canyon Road and Nacion)
is $30,000. Expenditures for #150 -1 will be $10,300, leaving the
remainder of $19,700 for Project #150 -2.
