RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHULA
VISTA, URGING LEGISLATORS OF THE UNITED STATES AND
THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA TO SERIOUSLY CONSIDER CLOSING
THE UNITED STATES-MEXICAN BORDER TO AMERICAN MINORS
SEEKING ENTRY TO MEXICO UNLESS SP_ID MINORS ARE A000M-
PANIED BY A PARENT OR OTHER RESPONSIBLE ADULT
The City Council of the City of Chula Vista does hereby
resolve as follows:
WHEREAS, the use of narcotics by minors has become an
extremely serious problem in the City of Chula Vista and throughout
the State of California, and
WHEREAS, there is ample evidence that considerable quantities
of narcotics are brought into California by minors across the California-
Mexican border, and
Tr~HEREAS, the situation is of particular concern to cities in
the southern part of the State and in close proximity to the Mexican
border, and
WHEREAS, the General Assembly of the League of California
Cities, assembled at its 70th Annual Conference in Los Angeles on
October 1G, 1968, passed a resolution urging tYie United States Congress
to conduct hearings in Southern California to consider the closing of
the California-Mexican border to minors, unless said minors were
accompanied by a parent or other responsible adult.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the
City of. Chula Vista that said Council, on behalf of itself and the
citizens of this community, does hereby strongly urge the Legislators
of the State of California and of the United States to give serious
consideration to the closing of the United States-Mexican border to
American minors seeking entry to Mexico, unless said minors are
accompanied by a parent. ar other responsible adult.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk of the City of
Chula Vista be, and he is hereby directed to forward certified copies
of this resolution to the Legislative Delegation of the County of San
Diego and to the Senators and Representatives in the United States
Senate and Congress from the State of California.
