RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA
GRANTING THE APPEAL OF THE CHUF,CIi OF JESUS CHRIST OF THE
LATTER DAY SAINTS FROM THE PLP_NI`dIPdG COT~IMISSIOI`1 ACTION
DENYING A CONDITIONAL L'SE PERMIT FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF
A CHURCH AND ACCESSOP,Y BUILDINGS
The City Council of the City of Chula Vista does hereby
resolve as follows:
WHEREAS, the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints,
San Diego South Stake, has heretofore applied for a conditional use
permit for the use of. the property located north of_ Elmhurst Street and
extending northerly to the proposed "H" Street extension, and also having
frontage on the east side of Otay Lal:es Road and extending east for
approximately 6G0 feet, comprising approximately 6.4 acres, and
WHEREAS, the Planning Commission has Heretofore held a
public hearing on January 15, 1968, to consider the request for grant
o.f. such a conditional use permit, and
WHEREAS, after reviewing all of the evidence and hearing all
of the testimony, the Planning Commission determined that the proposed
location for said church, recreational, and educational activities would
create a present and potential land development and use pattern detri-
mental to the entire area, and therefore denied said application for
conditional use permit, and
6~HEREAS, the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints
appealed. said action of the Planning Commission denying the conditional
use permit, and the City Council has held a public hearinq_ on said
appeal on Tuuesday, the 20th day of. February, 1968, a_nd
WHEREAS, the City Council finds after hearing all of the
evidence and testimony that said request f_or a conditional use permit
conforms fully to the facts required by the zoning ordinance of the
City of Chula Vista in that a church at said location is necessary and
desirable, does not conflict with th.e general plan, and would not be
detrimental to the area.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the
City of Chula Vista, based upon the .findings of.. fact set forth herein,
does hereby grant the appeal of the Church of. Jesus Christ of the Latter
Day >aints from the Planning Commission action denying said conditional
use permit, subject to the following conditions: (1) final site plans,
architectural elevations, and landscaping plar_s be submitted tc the
Director of Planning f_or approval; (2) street setbacks for buildings
shall be a minimum of 25' and street setbacks for off-street parking
shall be a minimum af. 15'; (3) all proposed signs shall be submitted
to the Director of Planning for approval; and (4) dedication and improve-
ment of affected streets shall be as recommended by the City Engineer.
