HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 1969-5208RESOLUTION NO. 5208 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA OPPOSING SB 1414 PROVIDING A GUARANTEED MINIMUM WAGE AND HOURS AND VACATION TIME FOR POLICEMEN The City Council of the City of Chula Vista does hereby resolve as follows: WHEREAS, the City of Chula Vista has previously reiterated its strong belief providing adequate compensation and fringe benefits to policemen, and WHEREAS, the City Council concurs in the goals of SB 1414 which would establish guaranteed minimum wages, hours and vacation time for policemen, and WHEREAS, the City Council finds that all such goals are indeed commendable in some instances, that a state-wide enforcement would have a deleterious effect upon all of the communities in the state, and WHEREAS, this measure would strike at the very heart of home rule by imposing mandatory costs on local government, but clearly inject the legislature in the matters of purely local and internal concern. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Chula Vista that the City Council is hereby strongly opposed to SB 1414 and urges its defeat. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk of the City of Chula Vista be, and he is hereby authorized and directed to forward certified copies of this resolution to Senator James Mills, Assem- blyman Wadie Deddeh and to all members of the San Diego County Legislative Delegation and to the legislative bodies of all munici- palities in San Diego County.
