RESOLUTION NO. 4420 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA SUPPORTING THE RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF THE COUNTY OF SAN DIEGO, URGING THE APPOINTMENT OF A SAN DIEGO COUNTY RESIDENT TO THE CALIFORNIA STATE HIGHWAY COMMISSION The City Council of the City of Chula Vista does hereby resolve as follows: WHEREAS, on the 9th day of May, 1967, the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Diego adopted Resolution No. 125, urging the Gover- nor of California to appoint a citizen of the County of San Diego to serve on the 6tate Highway Commission in recognition of San Diego's overall importance in California's transportation and highway system, and WHEREAS, as pointed out in said resolution, San Diego County is the second largest metropolitan area in the State of California, and must, therefore, deal with many complex transportation problems and meet the needs of more than one and one-quarter million residents and a great many tourists, and WHEREAS, the City of Chula Vista concurs fully with the recom- mendation of the Board of Supervisors that San Diego County continue to be represented on the State Highway Commission subsequent to the effective date of Senate Bill 46, which relieves the Administrator of the State Transportation Agency, Mr. Gordon Luce, a native San Diegan, from serving as a member of said Commission. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Chula Vista strongly supports the recommendation of the Board of Super- visors of the County of San Diego, and does hereby urge that the Governor of California appoint a citizen of this County to serve on the State Highway Commission. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk of the City of Chula Vista be, and he is hereby directed to forward a certified copy of this resolution to the Governor of the State of California, to each member of the Legislative Delegation of the County of San Diego, and to the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Diego. OP7 b40TION of Supervisor Boney, seconded by Supervisor Austin, the following resolution i~ adopted: WHEREAS, Senate Bill ~+6, which relieves the Adm~nistrator_©~f, the State Transportation Agency from serving as a member of the S ate Highway Commission, has been approved by the legislature and has been signed by the Governor; and • WHEREAS, `San Diego County has been traditionaTly'represented on the State Highway Commission byy one of its citizens and will, until the effective date of Senate Bill 46, continue to be ably represented by Gordon Luce, a native San Diegan and Administrator of the State Transportation Agency; and WHEREAS, San Diego County, second largest metropolitan area in the State.. of California, must address itself to many complex transportation problems which result from the needs of more-than one and a quarter million residents-and must accommodate a laxge amount of inter-state and infra-state traffic; and WHEREAS, San Diego County, by virtue of its high motor vehicle registration figure, contributes substantially to the State Highway Fund and has through its various agencies sought always to promote and cooperate in the improvement of the State highway system; NOW THEREFORE . BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County, of San Diego does hereby urge that the Governor of California appoint a citizen of this County to serve on the State Highway Commission in recognition of San Diego's over-all importance in California's transportation and highway system. ~ • PASSED.
