HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 2000-231 RESOLUTION NO. 2000-231 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA, CALLING AND GIVING NOTICE OF THE HOLDING OF A SPECIAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION TO BE HELD ON TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 7, 2000, FOR THE PURPOSE OF FILLING COUNCIL SEAT NUMBER 3 AND SUBMITTING CERTAIN CHARTER AMENDMENT(S) TO THE PEOPLE OF SAID CITY, AS REQUIRED BY THE PROVISIONS OF THE CHULA VISTA CHARTER AND THE LAWS OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA RELATING TO THE CONDUCT OF ELECTIONS WHEREAS, under the provisions of the Charter of the City of Chula Vista, a Special Municipal Election shall be held on Tuesday, November 7, 2000, for the purpose of conducting a ran- off election between the two candidates for Seat 3 who received the highest number of votes cast and yet did not receive a total of fifty percent plus one at the General Municipal Election held on March 7, 2000, and for the purpose of submitting Charter amendments to the People. NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA DOES HEREBY RESOLVE, DECLARE, DETERMINE AND ORDER, as follows: SECTION 1. Pursuant to the requirements of the Chula Vista Charter and the laws of the State of Califomia, there shall be and there is hereby called and ordered held in the City of Chula Vista, California, on Tuesday, November 7, 2000, a special municipal election of the qualified electors of said City for the purpose of a runoff election to elect one (1) Member of the City Council to fill Seat 3 for the full term of four years, commencing December, 2000, and for submitting certain Charter amendment(s) to the People. SECTION 2. The ballots to be used at said election shall be, both as to form and matter contained therein, such as may be required by law to be used thereat. SECTION 3. The City Clerk of said City is hereby authorized, instructed and directed to procure and fumish any and all official ballots, notices, printed matter and all supplies, equipment and paraphemalia that may be necessary in order to properly and lawfully conduct said election. SECTION 4. The polls of said election shall be open at seven o'clock a.m. of the day of said election and shall remain open continuously from said time until eight o'clock p.m. of the same day when said polls shall be closed, except as provided in Section 14401 of the Elections Code of the State of Califomia. SECTION5. InallparticularsnotrecitedinthisResolution, saidelectionshallbeheldandconducted as provided by law for holding municipal elections in said City. SECTION6. NoticeofthetimeanndplaceofholdingsaidelectionisherebygivenandtheCitYClerk is hereby authorized, instructed and directed to give such further notice or additional notice of said election in time, form and manner as required by law.
