RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHULA
VISTA ADOPTING IN PRINCIPLE THE CONCEPT OF A "FORMAL
GARDEN PARK DEVELOPMENT" TO BE LOCATED ON THE SOUTH-
WESTERN COLLEGE CAMPUS AND DIRECTING NEGOTIATION WITH
THE SOUTHWESTERN COLLEGE BOARD OF TRUSTEES TO PREPARE
THE DEVELOPMENT PLANS FOR SAID PROJECT
The City Council of the City of Chula Vista does hereby
resolve as follows:
WHEREAS, the City of Chula Vista and Southwestern College
have heretofore entered into agreements to develop recreational
facilities for the use of the entire community including the citizens
of Chula Vista as well as those in the unincorporated areas sur-
rounding Southwestern College, and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Chula Vista has
long been interested in the development of a major botanical garden
which would provide a true attraction for tourists from out of the
area as well as providing educational, recreational and quality
environmental aspects for all the citizens of the community, and
WHEREAS, it has been proposed that such a major botanical
garden arboretum comprising a truly distinctive "formal garden park
development" be located on the Southwestern College campus and both
the City of Chula Vista and Southwestern College participate in its
development.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the
City of Chula Vista that the City Council hereby adopts in principle
the concept of a "formal garden park development" to be located on
the Southwestern College campus and urges the Southwestern College
Board of Trustees to adopt a similar resolution endorsinq in prin-
ciple said concept.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Administrative Officer
and the Director of Parks and Recreation of the City of Chula Vista
be, and they are hereby authorized and directed, subject to endorse-
ment of this plan by the Southwestern College Board of Trustees, to
meet and work with the staff of Southwestern College to undertake
more specific planning for the development of such a formal garden
park, which planning would include, but not be limited to:
A. Exact size and location of facility
B. Agency responsibility for development
C. Contingencies required by both agencies
D. Total design
E. Overall development cost
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk of the City of
Chula Vista be, and he is hereby authorized and directed to forward
a certified copy of this resolution to the President of Southwestern
College.
