RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHULA
VISTA STIPULATING THAT APPROPRIATE ZONING REGULATIONS,
BUILDING CODES AND OTHER MEASURES TO ELIMINATE OR
MINIMIZE DAMAGE FROM FUTURE FLOODS OR LANDSLIDES HAVE
BEEN ENACTED AND THAT SAID REGULATIONS AND CODES AND
OTHER MEASURES ARE AND WILL CONTINUE TO BE ENFORCED
The City Council of the City of Chula Vista does hereby
resolve as follows:
WHEREAS, the Federal Flood Insurance Program now makes it
possible for California cities to qualify their residents for Federal
Flood Insurance, and
WHEREAS, the amendments to said program establish a two-year
emergency program under which residents o.f communities which meet
federal requirements for land use and land management designed to
minimize future damage from flood and landslide can obtain flood and
landslide insurance without waiting for the time-consuming actuarial
studies to establish insurance premium rates that had been required
under the previous legislation, and
WHEREAS, the City of Chula Vista, in accordance with the
directive contained in a letter from Assemblyman Robert G. Beverly,
Chairman of the Assembly Committee on Finance and Insurance of the
California Legislature, wishes to express its positive interest in
the Federal Flood Insurance Program.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the
City of Chula Vista that the City of Chula Vista has heretofore
adopted a flood plain zoning ordinance regulating the construction
of buildings and structures in those areas subject to inundation,
a grading ordinance regulating excavation and fill and an ordinance
requiring soil tests as well as having adopted the latest edition
of the Uniform Building Code, a copy of which is attached hereto
and incorporated herein by this reference as if_ set forth in full.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City of Chula Vista has
applied flood plain zoning to certain areas of the Sweetwater Valley
and, is, and will continue to enforce all of the above regulations as
well as such other regulations which in the future may be deemed
necessary and desirable to minimize the hazards and damages arising
from floods and landslides.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk of the City of
Chula Vista be, and he is hereby authorized and directed to forward
a certified copy of this resolution to the Federal Insurance Admini-
stration, Department of Housing and Urban Development, Washington,
D. C., 20410.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Administrative Officer be,
and he is hereby authorized and directed to request applications for
such Federal Flood Insurance from the Federal Insurance Administrator.
