[ 16 ] CHULA VISTA CITY COUNCIL MEETING OF: September 25, 1973 ITEM TITLE: Resolution - Approving Agreement between City of Chula Vista and Southwestern College for Off-Campus Work Study Program INITIATED BY: Director of Parks and Recreation Rnrxr,Rnirnm The City of Chula Vista has been approached by Southwestern College concerning an off-campus work study program, financed for the most part via a federal grant. The grant provides funds for college students who are categorized as being from low income families. In order for the students to receive funds for which they qualify they must engage, through the supervision of the College, in meaningful employment. In response to their request, this department has prepared a pre- liminary proposal to utilize six part-time recreation oriented students in our recreation programming (not to exceed 15 hours per week). If approved, this agreement will require financial participation by the City of Chula Vista for 25% of the total hourly rate, or 56 cents per hour. The duration of the agreement will be 39 weeks; from Octo- ber 1, 1973 through June 30, 1974. The total anticipated cost to the City is as follows: 39 weeks @ 15 hours per week = 585 hours 585 hours X 56 cents per hour = $327.60 per student worker $327.60 X 6 students = $1,965.60 A special appropriation will not be required as there are sufficient funds in the Recreation Division operating budget via salary savings, to defray the costs outlined above.
