RESOLUTION NO. 5538 f~
RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA
COMMENDING THE JUNIOR WOMEN'S CLUB FOR ITS OUTSTANDING
EFFORTS IN ORGANIZING THE "WALK FOR MANKIND" AND ALL
THOSE WHO PARTICIPATED IN THIS NOTEWORTHY EFFORT
The City Council of the City of Chula Vista does hereby
resolve as follows:
WHEREAS, on Saturday, February 7, 1970, a large group of
Chula Vista residents, estimated at over 2,000 in number, hiked
from Chula Vista's Memorial Park to Proctor Valley in the "Walk
for Mankind", and
WHEREAS, said participants were sponsored and all monies
received for their efforts in completing all or a portion of the
twenty-mile walk were given to Project Concern, an outstanding
operation headed by Dr. James Turpin who conducts medical clinics
in depressed areas of the world including Tijuana, Hong Kong and
South Vietnam, and
WHEREAS, a major part of the credit for the success of the
"Walk for Mankind" must be attributed. to the efforts of the Junior
Women's Club of Chula Vista, who along with the participants and
sponsors, contributed unselfishly of their time to realize the
humanitarian goal of providing essential private funding for Project
Concern which receives no financing from any governmental organization.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the
City of Chula Vista on behalf of themselves and the citizens of this
community that they do hereby commend the Junior Women's Club of the
City of Chula Vista and all of the participants and sponsors in the
"Walk for Mankind" and express their heartfelt appreciation for the
knowledge that the Junior Women's Club and those participants,
especially the young teenagers, have demonstrated in the vast
response of good feeling and charity in this community.
