RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA
SUPPORTING THE EFFORTS OF SUPERVISOR HENRY BONEY TO SECURE
THE INSTALLATION OF FULL COUNTY FACILITIES IN THE SOUTH
BAY AREA INCLUDING FULL MUNICIPAL AND SUPERIOR COURT
ACTIVITIES
The City Council of the City of Chula Vista does hereby
resolve as follows:
WHEREAS, Supervisor Henry Boney appeared before the Chula
Vista City Council on Tuesday, January 27, 1970 and outlined to said
Council proposals for the development of a complex in the South Bay
area preferably a site within the City of Chula Vista to house the
various activities of the San Diego County government, and
WHEREAS, the primary component of said facility would be a
Municipal Court containing at least four (4) courtrooms with four (4)
judges assigned to this area on a full-time basis and a Superior Court
with one (1) judge assigned to this area on a full-time basis, and
WHEREAS, the City Council and the entire community of the
City of Chula Vista have long expressed their deep disappointment over
the curtailment of Municipal Court functions in the South Bay Municipal
Court as a result of the consolidation of the South Bay Judicial District
and the San Diego Judicial District, and
WHEREAS, the City Council and all other civic groups in the
community including the South Bay Bar Association have urged the re-
establishment of full Municipal Court operations in the South Bay area.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the
City of Chula Vista that the City Council on behalf of themselves and
all of the citizens of this community do hereby support the efforts of
Supervisor Henry Boney for the construction of a complex in the South
Bay area preferably within the City of Chula Vista to house the opera-
tions of the San Diego County government principally full service of
a Municipal Court and a Superior Court.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of
Chula Vista does hereby express its deep belief that greater efficiency
can be achieved by the decentralization of the functions of County
government especially the Municipal and Superior Court functions, and.
does hereby reaffirm its conviction that the government closest to the
people can best serve the people, and that the proposals offered by
Supervisor Boney constitute an enlightened and progressive resolution
to the problems of government in the 20th century.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk of the City of
Chula Vista be, and he is hereby authorized and directed to forward a
certified copy of this resolution to Supervisor Henry Boney, and to
all of the other supervisors of San Diego County, to Mr. Fred A. Morey,
the Chief Administrative Officer of San Diego County, to Assemblyman
Wadie P. Deddeh, to State Senator James Mills, and all other members
of the San Diego County Legislative delegation and to the Legislature
of the State of California, to Congressman Lionel Van Deerlin, Senators
George Murphy and Alan Cranston.
