HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 1967-4621~ ,+ RESOLUTION NO. 4621 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA SUPPORTING THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A BORDER PARK AS PROPOSED BY THE SOUTH BAY HISTORICAL SOCIETY The City Council of the City of Chula Vista does hereby resolve as follows: WHEREAS, the South. Bay Historical Society has heretofore proposed the establishment of a Landmark and a State Park on the international border to serve the historical and recreational needs of the area, and WHEREAS, said Border Park is proposed to be located at the international border between Alta, California and Baja, California, appropriately situated to serve as a host center for many of the Pan American and North American programs now being held, and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Chula Vista feels that such a Border Park would promote better international understanding and hemispheric relationships, and would be symbolic of the close association between the states and provences of the Western Hemisphere. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Chula Vista does hereby strongly urge the establishment of a Border Park on the international border between Alta, California and Baja, California, and does hereby endorse the proposal of the South Bay Historical Society in this regard. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk of the City of Chula Vista be, and he is hereby directed to forward certified copies of this resolution to the Parks Commission of the County of San Diego, the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Diego, and to the South Bay Historical Society. THE BORDER MONUMENT LOCATED HALF IN ALTA CALIFORNIA AND HALF IN BAJA CALIFORNIA IS SYMBOLIC OF THE ASSOCIATION OF STATES. ~'~ ` ~-~. - --- ~--~ e,..,_. - ~: ~~ _,~, r~ . 1' ~' /i~ 1 ~~~ This Border Park area is appropriately located to serve as a host center for many of the Pan American and Inter American programs now being held. It is close to both the San Diego and Tijuana airports which serve all of North and South America. The Municipal Alliance for Border Planning has proposed a University of the Americas to be located here. It is ideally located to function as a center for many programs of a continental interest pertaining to land, sea and air. It is located at an International Border where the problems, needs and hopes of bordering countries have been peace- fully discussed for years.
