AGENCF RESOLUTION NO. 1662
JOINT RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL AND THE
REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY OF THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA
APPROVING THE MEMORANDUM OF IYNDERSTANDING
BETWEEN THE CITY OF SAN DIEGO AND THE CITY OF
CHULA VISTA SELECTING SITE # 1 AS THE PRIMARY SITE
UNDER CONSIDERATION FOR THE LOCATION AND
CONSTRUCTION OF A SOUTH BAY PUMP STATION
NECESSARY TO THE METROPOLITAN SEWERAGE SYSTEM
WHEREAS, the City of San Diego's Metropolitan Wastewater Department (MWWD) is
responsible for the Metropolitan Sewage system which handles the waste water of the City of San
Diego and 15 member agencies including Chula Vista; and
WHEREAS, MWWD is developing additional sewerage capacity to serve the South County
and needs to develop a pump station in the vicinity of SR-54 and 1-5; and
WHEREAS, staff has been working with MWWD to site the South Bay pump station; and
- WHEREAS, MWWD was considering locations within the Bayfront Redevelopment area
and City Council directed staff to work with MWWD to identify alternative sites outside of the
redevelopment area; and
WHEREAS, MWWD has worked cooperatively with the City of Chula Vista to develop the
attached Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) which commits both parties to work towards the
mutual goal of siting a pump station that is compatible with MWWD's needs and Chula Vista's
redevelopment efforts; and
WHEREAS, The MOU selects Site #1, located in Chula Vista at Sea Vale and Woodlawn,
as the primary site under consideration for the pump station, however does allow Site #2 (located
in the Bayfront Redevelopment area), and two sites in National City to be considered as alternatives.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Chula Vista
and the Redevelopment Agency hereby:
1. Find and determine that entering into the MOU is in the public interest and welfare
of the City and Agency because the MOU will facilitate the appropriate siting and
development of an important regional sewerage facility without unduly burdening
prospective redevelopment within the Bayfront Redevelopment; and
2. Approve the Memorandum of Understanding between the City of San Diego and the
City of Chula Vista in the form presented with such minor modifications as may be
