HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 1967-4561RESOLUTION N0. 4561 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA SUPPORTING PROPOSED MODIFICATION OF THE LAW ENFORCEMENT ASSISTANCE ACT The City Council of the City of Chula Vista does hereby resolve as follows: WHEREAS, the National League of Cities and the United States Conference of Mayors have heretofore adopted resolutions supporting cer- tain modifications of the Law Enforcement Assistance Act (S. 917, H.R. 5037), which modifications would: 1. Establish an incentive program whereby the Federal govern- ment would pay a greater percentage grant in cases where states contribute at least half of the non-federal share of local programs; 2. Allow for direct planning and program grants to local gov- ernments where the states have not made contributions to the non-federal share of local programs under the incentive plan or have not adopted com- prehensive criminal justice plans; 3. Insure that, in any program administered by the state, a specified, substantial share of the funds will be distributed to local governments for programs in the urban areas of the state; 4. Provide greater guarantees than are presently in the bill that city officials will be represented on the state planning agency, and WHEREAS, the Law Enforcement Assistance Act, in light of said modifications, has been analyzed by the Chief of Police and the Chief Administrative Officer of the City of Chula Vista, and said officials recommend that the City Council of the City of Chula Vista go on record as supporting said modifications.
