Home My WebLink AboutReso 1970-5794RESOLUTION N0. 5794 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA URGING THE STATE DIVISION OF HIGHWAYS TO COMPLETE INTERSTATE ROUTE 805 AS SOON AS POSSIBLE IN ITS PRESENTLY PLANNED LOCATION The City Council of the City of Chula Vista does hereby resolve as follows: WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Chula Vista has long supported the State Division of Highways in its efforts to ex- pedite the completion of Interstate Route 805 in its presently planned location as soon as possible, and WHEREAS, the completion of Interstate Route 805 will have a tremendous impact upon the economic ~.aell being of the City of Chula Vista, and WHEREAS, it is now suggested that an alternate be sought to provide a border crossing east of the existing one at San Ysidro, and WHEREAS, if such an alternate route is accomplished, it would add an estimated cost of ten million dollars to the construction of the freeway and of even greater importance to the City of Chula Vista, it would delay the completion of Interstate 805 for at least ten years, and WHEREAS, even though a border crossing to the east at San Ysidro may be desirable at some time in the future, it is far less important and necessary to the City of Chula Vista and all of the sur- rounding communities than the early completion of Interstate 805 in its presently planned location and at a tremendous savings to the taxpayers. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Chula Vista on behalf of themselves and. all of the citizens of this community do hereby urge the State Division of Highways to proceed forthwith with the plans for the completion of Interstate 805 as presently projected and to reject any and all attempts to delay this project in the interests of a alternate plan which is presently unnecessary and without merit. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk of the City of Chula Vista be, and he is hereby directed to forward certified copies of this resolution to our State Legislators, and to the State Division of Highways, and Mr. Jacob Dekema, Assistant Highway Engineer.
