[ 5 CHULA VISTA CITY COUNCIL MEETING OF: September 4, 1973 ITEM TITLE: Resolution - Accepting Bids and Awarding Contract for the Reconstruction of Curb Returns, Sidewalk and Cross Gutters at Various Locations in the City INITIATED BY: Director of Public Works/City Engineer BACKGROUND This project consists of repairing and replacing hazardous and broken curb, gutter, and sidewalk at various locations within the City. $8,000 in Gas Tax 6300 Activity funds have been budgeted for this project. Two bids were received as follows: Sapper Construction Company $13,231.00 G. Spikes & W. Love Masonry $20,417.50 The special provisions of the bid document reserved the right for the City Engineer to decrease bid quantities and to delete any of the job locations while retaining the unit prices as bid by the contractor. Although the bids were higher than the Engineer's estimate, upon further study it appears that their prices are not out of line, especially considering the many job sites in the total project. Of the overall 69 locations con- sidered, 40 locations were considered to be potentially hazardous. 35 of these 40 locations could be repaired at the bid prices for a total cost of $7,155.86. This would allow almost 12o for contingencies, with the total being within the $8,000 budgeted. The low bidder has been contacted and has stated that he would accept the contract for items 1 through 35 at the bid prices.
