[ 13 ] CHULA VISTA CITY COUNCIL MEETING OF: May 22, 197 3 ITEM TITLE: Resolution - Approving Application for Crime Specific Burglary Grant; Grant Number 1474 INITIATED BY: Chief of Police ~~U~ R~('T1rR(1TTNTl The City proposes to significantly decrease the crime of burglary through a program that will emphasize both prevention and enforce- ment. This program will be directed by the Sergeant in charge of the Property Crimes Unit in the Investigations Division. This program will utilize a task force of personnel from both the Investigations and Uniform Division as dictated by specific needs after analysis of burglary patterns. This program will research and establish a profile of known suspects to assist not only the task force but the beat officer in surveillance and apprehension. This program will supplement and expand the present home security program in a door-to-door campaign of home inspection and public awareness of the burglary problem, also extending the marking of personal property to the neighborhood level in the areas that are having a high incidence of burglary. The total project cost for one year is $44,586. Of this amount $33,333. will be provided the City from CCCJ funds. These funds will be utilized to pay task force members who will be working on an overtime basis and to hire two dart time Interns. In-service City costs will be derived from existing program funds which causes no added cost impact. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that grant funds received hereunder shall not be used to supplant on-going law enforcement expenditures.
