The selected items are as follows:
Two Dual Frequency Radio Monitors - $1,680. Including Tax
This equipment is requested for use in fire station 4~2, 80 East J Street and fire station ~~3,
266 East Oneida. It will provide monitoring capabilities for the county fire radio net on
both the local and county wide frequencies. This equipment will provide benefits in the
following areas.
1. Allow an alternate means for contacting the station in event of telephone line inter-
ruption. All existing intra-station communication is dependent upon telephone lines.
2. Allow station personnel to monitor radio traffic and keep abreast of current events both
in Chula Vista and adjacent South Bay jurisdictions.
3. Provides monitor receivers for future radio dispatching of equipment to emergencies.
4. Complies with the recommendations of the Grading Schedule for communications between the
fire dispatcher and outlying stations.
Emergency Generator - $1,950. Including Tax
This equipment is requested for use in fire station ~~2, 80 East J Street. All means of
communications between the fire dispatcher and outlying stations is dependent upon 110V AC
for power source. A power outage at a fire station not equipped with an emergency generator
will result in that station being isolated and unable to be contacted immediately for response
to a fire or other emergency. The generator proposed is of adequate size to power all equip-
ment necessary to keep the station operational during a power outage. This is the only
remaining fire station without provisions for emergency power.

Pickup Truck - $3,400. Including Tax
This vehicle is proposed for use by the battalion chief in charge of fire suppression.
In the course of his duties he responds to emergencies in all areas of the city and
over all types of terrain. Continuing annexations of wild land make large areas of
the city inaccessible to pumper crews and also inaccessible to a standard automobile.
In addition to providing the battalion chief all-terrain transportation capabilities,
it will provide a means for transporting pumper crews to areas inaccessible to the
pumpers. The .station wagon presently being used is inadequate both in off-the-road
travel and in transporting of personnel. Equipment carried in the station wagon limits
its use as a personnel carrier most of the time.
Equipment transported between stations on a daily basis can more easily be moved with
a pickup and with a greater degree of safety. Loading and unloading a station wagon
is awkward and creates a safety hazard.
The pickup will further place the battalion chief in a better position during emergency
response. The driver of a pickup sits at a higher elevation and commands a better view
of the traffic ahead. This provides a safer response.
