HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 1971-6086RESOLUTION N0. 6086 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA APPROVING THAT CERTAIN MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING CON- CERNING WAGES, HOURS AND OTHER TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT BETWEEN THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA AND THE CHULA VISTA FIREFIGHTERS ASSOCIATION FOR FISCAL YEAR 1971-72 The City Council of the City of Chula Vista does hereby resolve as follows: WHEREAS, the representatives of the City Manager of. the City of Chula Vista, acting for and on behalf of the City Council of the City of Chula Vista, have heretofore met and conferred with the Chula Vista Firefighters Association, an organization representing the uniformed employees of the Chula Vista Fire Department up through the rank of Captain, in accordance with the provisions of Section 3500 et seq. of the Government Code of the State of California, and WHEREAS, the Memorandum of Understanding jointly prepared by said parties as a result of meeting and conferring has been presented to the City Council and. is contained in Exhibit "A", attached hereto and incorporated herein by reference as if set forth in full. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Chula Vista does hereby approve and accept said Memorandum of Understanding as contained in Exhibit "A" for fiscal year 1971-72. DATED City Clerk Exhibit "A" MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING CONCERNING WAGES, HOURS AND OTHER TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT BETWEEN THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA AND THE CHULA VISTA FIRE- FIGHTERS ASSOCIATION FOR FISCAL YEAR 1971-72 WHEREAS, the representatives of the City Manager of the City of the City of Chula Vista, acting for and on behalf of the City Council of the City of Chula Vista, have heretofore met and conferred with the Chula Vista Firefighters Association, an organization representing the uniformed employees of the Chula Vista Fire Department up through the rank of Captain, in accordance with the provisions of Section 3500 et seq. of the Government Code of the State of California. WHEREAS, as a result of meeting and conferring in good faith with said group, agreement has been reacl?ed on the following terms and conditions of employment and said representatives of the City Manager and of the Chula Vista Firefighters Association do now jointly prepare a written Memorandum of Understanding concerning said agreed terms and conditions of employment for presentation to the City Council of the City of Chula Vista for determination, to-wit: 1. City hereby agrees to the reduction of the presently accepted work week of 67.2 hours to a work week of 60.0 hours. It is further understood and agreed that the Fire Department will continue to operate on a two-platoon system with 24 hour shifts. 2. City agrees to increase the wages of all uniformed members of the Fire Department through and including the rank of Captain by an amount equal to 2-1/2 percent of the wages presently being paid to said members. 3. It is further understood and agreed that any other benefits and working conditions and the terms and conditions thereof presently in effect shall remain unchanged (except for amendments to the Civil Service Rules which liberalize employee benefits) unless and until said terms and conditions shall be modified as a result of meeting and conferring in good faith between the City and the Chula Vista Firefighters Asso- ciation pursuant to the provisions of Section 3500 of the Government Code of the State of California, provided, further, however, that all terms and conditions agreed upon by this Memorandum of Understanding shall remain in full force and effect for the entire fiscal year 1971-72. 4. It is further understood and agreed that if and in the event that the Leqislature of the State of California adopts legislation which becomes law at any time during the fiscal year 1971-72 related to and affecting any of the terms and conditions of employment agreed to in this Memorandum of Understanding, that this Memorandum shall be void and of no further force and effect and all terms and conditions herein shall be subject to renegotiation. ~ ~.~~--~ Jo Thomson, City Manager Jim Dyar, President, Chula Vista Firefighters Association (D vB~D ~~ ,:_ ~<~-.
