RESOLUTION NO. 6137
RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF TF~E CITY OF CHULA VISTA
ACCEPTING IRAPUATO, MEXICO AS A SISTER CITY
The City Council of the City of Chula Vista does hereby resolve
as follows:
WHEREAS, the City of Chula Vista has heretofore accepted the
City of General Roca, Argentina as a Sister City, and
WHEREAS, the President of the United States and the American
Municipal Association have heretofore encouraged and recommended the
establishment of friendly relations between American municipalities f.or
the purpose of exchange of cultural, economic and other information and
experiences as an aid to the development of closer ties and better under-
standing between the United States and her friends of the Western Hemi-
sphere, and
WHEREAS, in order to further fulfill the mission supported by
the President a.nd the American Municipal Association, it is now desired
to accept an additional Sister City for the City of Chula Vista, and
WHEREAS, the International Friendship Commission of the City
of Chula Vista has contacted the town of Irapuato, Mexico, and
WHEREAS, Mayor Thomas D. Hamilton has journeyed to Irapuato
and met with the officials of Irapuato, Mexico, and
WHEREAS, said. officials are eager to join the City of Chula
Vista as a Sister City and the International Friendship Commission and
Mayor Hamilton believe and recommend that it would be of great benefit
to the City of Chula Vista to adopt the City of Irapuato, Mexico as a
Sister City.
NOh', THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the
City of. Chula Vista hereby adopts the City of Irapuato, Mexico, and
hereby designates same as its Sister City with a view to extending the
friendship and the contacts already developed and with a view to exchanging
such cultural and economic information and visits of authorized personnel
as may be deemed expedient and proper for the purpose of developing an
enduring friendship between the two cities and a mutual understanding by
Chula Vista of the customs, ideals, form of government and way cf life
of the City of Irapuato and establishing in the City of Irapuato a
corresponding understanding of our customs, ideals, American form of
government and way of life.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk of the City of Chula
Vista be, and she is hereby authorized and directed to forward certified
copies of this resolution to all interested persons and agencies including
the President of the United States, the United States Information Agency,
Washington, D.C., the United States Information Service, Mexico City,
the Mayer of the City of Irapuato, Mexico, and the American. Municipal
Association and International Friendship Commission.
