RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CHULA VISTA ADOPTING A STREET TREE PLANTING
POLICY
The City Council of the City of Chula Vista does hereby
resolve as follows:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of
the City of Chula Vista does hereby establish the following street
tree planting policy:
Purpose.
The purpose of the street tree planting policy is to
establish uniform guidelines to provide attractive
tree lined streets in the City of Chula Vista.
I. New Subd2v2sions and Planned Unit Developments.
A. Responsibility. Developer shall bear the cost
of tree planting, as required by the Subdivision Ordi-
nance, for trees specified by the City. He shall guarantee
the health of the tree for one year after acceptance of
the subdivision. The guarantee shall be by proof of a
private maintenance agreement or by bonding for replace-
ment of any trees required to be replaced by the City.
B. Specifications. Tree type shall be established
by consultation between the Landscape Planner and the Tree
Maintenance Foreman. Unless otherwise specified during
the processing of the tentative map, trees shall be at
least 15 gallons in size and approximately six-feet (6')
high. They shall be approved by the Tree Maintenance
Foreman through the Engineering Division for size,
quality, staking and location prior to acceptance of
the subdivision.
II. Developed Area.
A. Responsibility. In areas which are developed
and where adjacent land is occupied, the City shall plant
new street trees in accordance with the street tree list
when requested by the property owner. The property owner
shall be assessed $10, which represents only a portion of
the cost for planting and staking. The property owner
is responsible for nurturing the street tree thereafter.
In developed areas where adjacent property is not
occupied or where a special situation is deemed to exist
by the Street Tree Committee, the City may plant trees
in accordance with the street tree list when approved
by the Street Tree Committee. In such cases the City
shall nurture these trees until established or until
the adjacent property is occupied.
B. Specifications. The street trees planted under
this section shall conform to the street tree list approved
by the City Council. All trees shall be at least 15 gallons
in size and approximately six-feet (6') high. They shall
be approved by the Tree Maintenance Foreman as to size
and quality, locating and staking.
III. CitzU PropertzU.
Where park development plans are prepared, such plans
shall be reviewed by the Street Tree Committee.
