RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CHULA VISTA APPROPRIATING $20,000 FROM THE
AVAILABLE BALANCE OF THE INMATE WELFARE FUND
WHEREAS, under California Penal Code Section 4025, an Inmate Welfare Fund is
mandated to provide services essential to the benefit, welfare and educational needs of the
inmates confined in the detention facilities; and
WHEREAS, money deposited into the Inmate Welfare Fund includes commission
attributable to the use of pay telephones that aze primarily used by inmates while incarcerated,
along with sales from the jail commissary; and
WHEREAS, inmate welfare funds may not be used to pay for required expenses of
confining inmates in a local detention system, such as meals, clothing, housing or medical
services; and
WHEREAS, the Police Department is requesting an appropriation of $20,000 to purchase
fitness and recreation equipment for jail inmates from the available balance of the Inmate
Welfare Fund.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Chula
Vista does hereby appropriate $20,000 from the available balance of the Inmate Welfaze Fund.
