HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 1972-6420RESOLUTION N0. 6420 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA OPPOSING AB 206 PERTAINING TO BINDING ARBITRA- TION FOR POLICEMEN AND FIREMEN The City Council of the City of Chula Vista does hereby resolve as follows: WHEREAS, AB 206 would affect drastic and far-reaching changes to the Meyers-Milias Brown Act as it relates to local safety members which would impose unwarranted restrictions upon the governing body of municipalities in negotiating with safety employees, and WHEREAS, it would provide for mediation, factfinding, and binding findings and recommendations by a Board of Review which would be tantamount to binding arbitration thus leaving the final deter- mination of the settlement of labor disputes in the hands of a Board of Review which has no responsibility for the collection of taxes and revenues necessary to support such labor settlements, and WHEREAS, AB 206 constitutes an unwarranted interference in the management process of local municipalities, destroys the basic concepts of home rule and demonstrates an irresponsible attitude on the part of the Legislature toward the management func- tions of the duly elected representatives of the people at the local level. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Chula Vista does hereby urge all citizens to oppose AB 206 and to urge their legislative representatives to vote against AB 206 as being adverse to the interests of the local com- munity and the right of the citizens to achieve effective represen- tation in matters directly affecting their tax liabilities. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk of the City of Chula Vista be, and she is hereby authorized and directed to forward certified copies of this resolution to Senator James Mills, Assembly- man Wadie Deddeh and all members of the San Diego County Legislative Delegation.
