CHULA VISTA CITY COUNCIL MEETING OF: February 6, 1973
ITEM TITLE: Resolution - Authorizing Waiver of Greens Fees and "Shotgun"
Start for the 8th Annual Chula Vista City Junior Golf
Championship Tournament
INITIATED BY: Director of Parks and Recreation
BACKGROUND:
The San Diego Junior Golf Association has requested a waiver of greens
fees and authorization for a "shotgun" start for their 8th annual Chula
Vista City Junior Championship Tournament to be held at the Chula Vista
Municipal Golf Course on Monday, August 13, 1973.
A "shotgun" start is common to large tournaments, as it allows play to
begin on all tees at the same time. This tournament will involve ap-
proximately 180 junior players: 120 eighteen hole contestants and 60
nine hole contestants, including 40 players from the Chula Vista Junior
Golf Club. All starting times from 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon will be
used for the 120 eighteen hole contestants; a special group of 60
younger junior players will play nine hole rounds, beginning at 12:00
noon.
The expense involved in the waiver of greens fees will be approximately
$465.00.
A review of play at the golf course on Mondays indicates the average
morning eighteen hole play is 50 players; the afternoon eighteen hole
play is 85 players.
The Chula Vista City Junior Championship Tournament, with the "shotgun"
start, would close the golf course to public play during the hours of
7:00 a.m, to 12:00 noon. The tournament would not affect the afternoon
nine hole play.
