CHULA VISTA CITY COUNCIL MEETING OF: February 6, 1973
ITEM TITLE: Resolution - Accepting Bids and Awarding Contract for Norman
Park Shuffleboard Court Addition

This project consists of adding two (2) additional shuffleboard
courts and overhead to the existing shuffleboard courts at Norman
Park Center.
Formal bids were opened at 11:00 A.M, on January 16, 1973 in the
Council Chambers. The preliminary estimate for the project, con-
tained in a report to Council dated November 16, 1972, was $6500.
The Engineering Division has prepared an estimate of the project
which determines the cost of the project to be $8600, including
contingencies. The low bid of $8974 was submitted by T. B. Penick
& Sons, Inc. This is 4.3o above the engineer's estimate. The
Engineering Division, however, is of the opinion that this is a
fair bid and that it is doubtful if a better bid could be obtained.
The Director of Parks and Recreation concurs with the opinion and
recommendation of the Engineering Division.
Following is a list of the contractors and their respective bids on
this project.
San Diego - T. B. Penick & Sons, Inc. $8,974.00
San Diego - Sapper Construction Co. $9,487.00

Financial Statement:
$100,000 was budgeted for park development under the 1972-73 Capital
Improvement Program (PR-2-72). As of January 12, 1973 there was an un-
encumbered balance of $93,233.84 in this account. With this appropriation
the new balance for this account will be $83,233.84.

Recommends acceptance of the bids and award of the contract to T. B.
Penick & Sons, Inc. and authorization for the expenditure of $10,000.
