ITEM TITLE: Resolution - Approving Utility Agreement Between the City of
Chula Vista and State of California Regarding Modification of
Sewer Facilities
INITIATED BY: Director of Public Works/City Engineer
BACKGROUND
The construction of the Route 54 Freeway between I-5 and I-805 Freeways
will result in the disruption of sewer service to certain areas lying
within and adjacent to the freeway right of way.
The purpose of this agreement is to insure the same level of sewer servicE
to those areas presently served by the City of Chula Vista, and which wil:
remain intact after the construction of the freeway. Sewer facilities
will be abandoned in those areas which lie within the freeway right of wad
One area of particular concern is the Sweetwater Valley Industrial Park
which lies east of Fourth Avenue and adjacent to Trousdale Drive. 37.18
acres of the industrial park lie within the freeway right of way while
26.04 acres beyond the freeway right of way will still require sewer
service. The total industrial park is presently served by sewers and a
sewage pump station. Under the terms of the agreement a portion of the
sewer and the sewage pump station will be abandoned. The 26.04 remaining
acres will be served by a gravity system through a direct gravity con-
nection with the Spring Valley Trunk Sewer. This will eliminate an annua:
maintenance and operation cost for the existing sewage pump station of
about $3,000.
In accordance with the agreement, the State
modifying sewer facilities and will pay the
