RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHULA
VISTA ENDORSING AB 1144 PROVIDING FOR THE DEDICATION
OF LAND AND CONSTRUCTION OF SCHOOL FACILITIES OR
IN LIEU FEE PAYMENTS AS A CONDITION OF APPROVAL OF
A FINAL SUBDIVISION MAP OR PARCEL MAP
The City Council of the City of Chula Vista does hereby
resolve as follows:
WHEREAS, the City of Chula Vista has long been concerned
with the problem of adequacy of school facilities which are often
overburdened and frequently non-existent when new residential devel-
opments are undertaken, and
WHEREAS, the City of Chula Vista, in cooperation with the
Chula Vista City School District, and the Sweetwater Union High
School District, has instituted a program to insure the adequacy
of educational facilities and needs through the provisions of the
General Plan of the City of Chula Vista, and
WHEREAS, the City recognizes that the most expedient means
of handling this problem would be through an appropriate amendment
to the State Subdivision Map Act authorizing the cities to require
the dedication of land in the construction of school facilities or
the payment of in lieu fees, or a combination thereof, as a condition
of the approval of a final subdivision map or parcel map, and
WHEREAS, said legislation has been introduced in the form
of AB 1144.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of
the City of Chula Vista on behalf of themselves and all of the
interested persons in this communuty do hereby urge the Legislature
to support AB 1144 and adopt it as soon as possible to cope with
this very urgent situation.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk of the City of
Chula Vista be, and she is hereby authorized and directed to forward
a certified copy of this resolution to Senator James Mills, Assembly-
man Wadie P. Deddeh and all other members of the San Diego County
Legislative Delegation, and to the Board of Trustees of the Chula
Vista city School District and the Sweetwater Union High School
District.
