Home My WebLink AboutReso 1975-7655. r RESOLUTION X10. 7655 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA SUPPORTING SB 312 T~IHICH TEMPORARILY ,^7AIV~?S THE PERS REQUIREMENTS FOR THE CETA PROGRZ~~I The City Council of the City of Chula Vista does hereby resolve as follows: T~4HEREAS, the unemployment rate in California has been in- creasing at an alarming rate and every effort should be made to help alleviate this problem, and WHEREAS, the federal government has created a Comprehensive Employment and Training Act consisting of Titles II and VI to quickly place as many unemployed people as possible with government agencies, and WHEREAS, the Comprehensive Employment and Training Act, Titles II and VI, are funded for only twelve months, and WHEREAS, many governmental agencies contract with the State of_ California Public Retirement System and most of the contracts specify that if any agency employs an individual for more than 1040 hours in one year the individual must become a member of PERS, and ~~JI3ERE.AS, waiving the PERS requirement for one year would generate a savings of approximately ten percent of the total federal allocation which could be utilized to create additional jobs. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Chula Vista supports SB 312 and does hereby urge the Legisla- ture to pass SB 312. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk of the City of Chula Vista be, and she is hereby directed to forward a certified copy of this resolution to all members of the San Diego County Legislative Delegation.
