[ 3ab] CHULA VISTA CITY COUNCIL MEETING OF: May 20 , 1975 (Continued) Public Hearing - Consideration of Vacating Alleys South of "G" ITEM TITLE: Street, West of Fourth Avenue Resolution - Ordering Vacation of Alleys South of "G" Street, SVest of Fourth Avenue INITIATED BY: Director of Public Works~City Engineer ~~~~~ a BACKGROUND: The City Council, by Resolution 7709 on April 22, 1975, established May 13, 1975 as the date for a public hearing on vacating two alleys south of "G" Street, west of Fourth Avenue. The two alleys were dedicated upon the recordation of Kuebler Terrace Unit #6 Subdivision, Map 2857 on March 26, 1952. These two alleys do not function as public alleys, but as driveways to serve the multiple family developments adjacent to them. Since they are dedicated as alleys, the City is obligated to maintain them. I believe, however, that since the alleys serve essentially as private driveways, that their continued maintenance by the City is in- appropriate. On March 26, 1975 the Planning Commission considered the proposed vacation and determined that these alleys are no longer necessary for public use and recommended that they be vacated. All utility companies have been notified and they have requested reservations of easements for their existing facilities. Also, the City is reserving an easement for sewer purposes. A transparency is available for Council viewing. I will make an oral report at the City Council meeting in response to Mr. Mattes" objection to vacating the alley.
