RESOLUTION NO. 7705
RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHULA
VISTA GIVING QUALIFIED ENDORSEMENT TO THE PRELISdINARY
COASTAL PLAN
The City Council of the City of Chula Vista does hereby
resolve as follows:
WHEREAS, the California Coastal Commission and the six
regional commissions have now prepared a Preliminary Coastal Plan
to be presented to the State Legislature in December of 1975, and
WHEREAS, a review of said plan by Planning staffs of
affected cities has been requested and recommendations are desired
by the various legislative bodies to be presented in the month of
April, 1975, and
WHEREAS, the Planning Department of the City of Chula
Vista has reviewed the Coastal Plan, and
WHEREAS, the Planning Department finds the plan generally
acceptable except for certain definite conflicts with the previously
adopted Chula Vista Bayfront Plan, which forms the basis of the
Redevelopment Project in that area, and
WHEREAS, the Preliminary Coastal Plan requires the per-
manent retention of agricultural uses in the Chula Vista Bayfront
and assigns a low priority to residential developrent in that
area, and
WHEREAS, said elements of the Preliminary Coastal Plan
would substantially prohibit the implementation of the Chula Vista
Redevelopment Project in said area, and
L9HEREAS, the Chula Vista Bayfront Plan was carefully pre-
pared to insure maximum retention of natural features be achieved
consistent with expanded use of bayfront for recreational purposes.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of
the City of Chula Vista does hereby give a qualified endorsement
to the Preliminary Coastal Plan, but hereby registers strong objec-
tion to the portions of the plan which would require permanent
retention of agricultural uses in the Chula Vista Bayfront and
assign a low priority to residential development in that area.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Chula Vista City Council
specifically requests that said elements which are in conflict with
the Chula Vista Bayfront Plan be deleted from the Preliminary Coastal
Plan and that the Coastal Plan be revised to conform with the pre-
viously approved Chula Vista Bayfront Study.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk of the City of
Chula Vista be, and she is hereby authorized and directed to forward
a certified copy of this resolution to all members of the San Diego
County Legislative Delegation, the California Coastal Zone Conser-
vation Commission and the San Diego Coast Regional Commission.
