Amending Resolution #7775 establishing compensation for Unclassified
Service and amending the FY75-76 Qudget.

ITEM EXPLANATION
It is proposed that the City Council adopt an Ordinance placing a new class "Deputy
City Clerk", in the Unclassified Service. If the Ordinance is adopted it is necessary
to amend Resolution #7775 by adding the new classification title of Deputy City Clerk.
As a result of a salary survey, Salary Range 22 effective when the proposed Ordinance
establishing Deputy City Clerk in the Unclassified Service takes effect, and Salary
Range 22.5 effective January 1, 1976, are recommended.
Financial Impact
If the City Council approves the reconmendations, the additional cost for the remainder
of the Fiscal Year would be $210. There are sufficient funds budgeted in Activity
#1160 of Account 5101 to cover this. increase, therefore, an appropriation from the
General Fund will not be necessary.

Definition
Under direction, to perform a variety of responsible and professional
clerical and secretarial work for the City Clerk, including the maintenance of
official City documents and records; to assist the City Clerk with detailed
procedures relating to municipal elections; to supervise general office activi-
ties; and to do related work as required.
Examples of Typical Duties
Supervises routine work involved in maintaining official City documents
and records; attends meetings of the City Council and assists in recording actions
taken; assists in the preparation of agenda and minutes; takes and transcribes
minutes or notes of conferences; types a variety of letters, reports, forms,
resolutions, ordinances, notices, and other correspondence; signs documents for
official records; maintains the Clerk's Calendar and the Councils Calendar; con-
tacts other departments agencies, and employees for information required by
Clerk or for reports or correspondence; reviews materials submitted for Council
action to determine that all relevant data, files, signatures, attachments and
other required details are included; assists Clerk with budget and other operating
details such as training of staff, time keeping and processing purchase requisi-
tions; answers questions from the public and City staff and officials regarding
ordinances, resolutions, and official actions; acts as a registrar of voters;
maintains office files; handles confidential correspondence; acts for the
City Clerk in her absence.
Desirable Qualifications
Training and Experience - Any combination equivalent to graduation from
high school supplemented by courses in stenography and secretarial science and
four years of stenographic and clerical experience of which one year shall have
been in a responsible secretarialcapacity, preferably in a municipal agency.
Knowledges, Skills, and Abilities - Knowledge of modern office practices
and procedures; knowledge of city government organization; ability to take dicta-
tion at a speed of not less than 110 words per minute; ability to type at a
speed not less than 60 words per minute; ability to use good judgment and discre-
tion in responding to inquiries; ability to work independently in the absence of
specific instructions, ability to establish and maintain effective filing systems;
ability to supervise clerical personnel; ability to establish and maintain
effective relations with the public, other City staff and City officials.
