ITEM TITLE: Resolution 8340: Approving Memorandum of Understanding for Provision of
Paramedic Services

ITEM EXPLANATION:
At the meeting of August 10, 1976, the City Council accepted a tentative proposal for the
provision of paramedic services in the Chula Vista area. Staff was subsequently author-
ized to work out details necessary for implementation of the program.
Attached is a Memorandum of Understanding between the City, County, the two local hospitals,
the two adjacent fire protection districts and the City's franchised emergency ambulance
service. The program conforms to the general outlines originally presented to Council
and no problem should be experienced in obtaining the designated signatures, as the other
participants' governing boards have already approved the concept. A final meeting of the
parties will be held by October 1, 1976, at which time the document will be executed and
a press release issued.
The paramedic candidates are scheduled to begin training October 4, 1976, and become
certified in approximately five (6) months. In the interim, the Mobile Intensive Care
Unit will be acquired and specific dispatching/reporting procedures developed. Actual
operations should commence no later than April 1, 1977.
