Transparencies showing the new routes are available for Council viewing. In line with a recommendation contained in the transit improvement report, route designations have been changed from alpha to numeric characters. The change at this time will prevent confusion which might result from one of the new routes having the same alpha designation as an established route. The two new routes are 3 and 5. During the course of preparing the schedule for route 3, it was discovered that this route as proposed in the approved transit plan was too short. Additionally, it was found that portions of the route traversed streets being served by other routes. To overcome these two defects, staff recommends that route 3 serve a loop starting at "J" Street, proceeding south on 4th Avenue to Naples; west on Naples to 5th Avenue, then north on 5th Avenue to the shopping Center. This loop will provide service to both Chula Vista High School and Del Rey High School, plus a heavily populated area not now served by Chula Vista City Bus Lines. Approximately 1 mile of this proposed loop is in the unincorporated County area. County staff once again has indicated a willingness to recommend payment for mileage on this route.
